Stern Landing Vessels

Sea Transport Solutions has developed, refined and proven a Stern Landing Vessel (SLV) design offering a superior alternative to conventional landing craft for coastal shipping operations.

Stern landing Vessels
Commercial applications for the SLV are similar to conventional landing craft; however the SLV design has overcome the primary problems associated with conventional landing craft, including:

  • Poor head sea capability due to bluff bow ramp, dramatically reducing speed

  • Poor visibility due to bow ramp

  • Crew discomfort and fatigue due to location of accommodation directly above machinery spaces

  • Inadequate power available when de-beaching due to propellers working inefficiently astern, and the need to overcome the forefoot suction effect

  • Poor stability due to the low profile GZ curve, low freeboard and shallow deck edge immersion resulting in limited deadweight capacity

  • Required ballast due to high block coefficient and poor stability

Incorporating a shallow ‘V’ hull with two side pods, off-centre shafts and a beaching protection aft skeg arrangement, the SLV is now a finely tuned design that has evolved into a commercially and operationally unbeatable landing craft design.
