2D CNC Applications

Our sophisticated computer programs enable us to produce ship hull models (See our Computer Modelling page for more details) for which we can produce CNC cutting data to various stages, according to client's requirements.

Overview of CNC application stages:

  • Computer faired hull lines & offsets
  • Full size hull patterns on polyester film
  • Computer generated hull model
  • Computer generated superstructure & mouldings
  • Frame components nested onto specified plate/sheet material
  • CAD drawing files (DXF) for frame components, ready for toolpath code generation.
  • 2D-Toolpath code generation for various CNC controllers
  • 3D components for 5-axis milling machinesDevelopment of skewed hull plating
  • Expansion of curved hull plating, including rolling lines, forming templates and strain maps
  • Nesting and CNC toolpath generation for shell plating
  • Total ship hull CNC package, including brackets, collars and similar components

3D CNC Applications

STS can prepare 3d component models and arrange for fabrication of corresponding male or female moulds or plugs in a large format 5-axis mill. Components can be any size and complexity, even up to whole cruiser hull and deck moulds.

3D CNC Production Advantages:
  • Fast mould production for high or low volume FRP component production
  • Yard space freed up and available for other things
  • Increased competitiveness through reduced deadlines
  • Quick turn-around time for projects
  • High-cost plug/mould fabrication eliminated
  • High accuracy CNC components cut fairing and adjusting by 75%
  • Quick tooling time so less draw-down interest on mould investment.

Pre Cut Hull Kits

Hull kits can be prepared especially for builders who don't have the time to spend on costly lofting, setting up, fairing, nesting and component cutting. All pre-cut components are delivered with clear identification, and with an assembly plan for easy construction. Kits are available for steel, alloy and plywood construction.
